While Celiac disease is very real and gluten has a detrimental effect on those who have it, the vast majority of people have no problem with gluten. If a person does not have Celiac disease, then a gluten free diet can actually do more harm than good. Products that claim to be gluten free substitute that gluten with ingredients like rice, which raises the product’s sugars and calories. Bottom line, if you don’t have Celiac disease, there’s no reason to take out gluten from your diet.
